AFCP SCHOLARSHIP


Mission Statement

The purposes of this Association are educational and charitable, in that it shall encourage educational pursuits by Portuguese descendents in America and the raising of their intellectual standards, provide financial assistance in the form of scholarships to deserving students of Portuguese descent, develop fellowship among them, cultivate in them the spirit of service in the public interest.


Requirements for Candidates

To apply for the AFCP Scholarship you must be of Portuguese descent and a citizen or
permanent resident of the United States and a student entering your freshman year of college.


You must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 by the application deadline; must possess an active interest in
Portuguese language and culture; and must have an outstanding record of community service in the community. You must
also be a graduate of an accredited high school by the summer of the year of the award and must have demonstrated high moral character,
good citizenship, and must comply with the rules and regulations of the AFCP's scholarship program.

Deadline

Completed applications must be returned no later than February 28, 2005.

Selection Process

Selection of the AFCP Scholarship winner will be made by the Scholarship
Subcommittee after careful consideration of each application.

Announcement of Scholarship Winner:

The recipient of the scholarship to be awarded this year will be announced on or before
April 30, 2005 and there will be a ceremonial presentation to the recipient at the annual
AFCP Dinner Ceremony, on the evening- of November 2002.
It anticipated the scholarship recipient will address the audience during the ceremony
